We hope that this Blog post finds you and your family well and looking forward to some more positive steps in the easing of the lockdown.
Last week we celebrated 10 years on the high street! And 12 years as a business, so I thought it would be nice to share with you the journey of Beverley Edmondson Millinery so far……
In light of having to be closed right now due to Corona virus, we have had a little spare time, so we have used that time wisely to bring you an online sample sale! Up to 85% off!
With the world in lock down due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and us all stuck at home preventing the spread, I thought it may be fun to put together a fun hat quiz featuring all sorts of hat based trivia!
I’d love to know how you get on with the quiz and what your scores are! So do get in touch and let us know if you do play!
The world of hats is rich in history and etiquette, hats are far reaching across the world, from fashion to function, hats cover such a broad spectrum, so I hope this quiz will provide some interesting little know facts and expand your hatting knowledge!
Friday 3rd April 2020 represents a decade since our doors opened in Farnham.
On the 3rd April 2010 a 23 year old me took the step to open the doors to Beverley Edmondson Millinery at the time I didn’t realise how brave or life changing that decision was.
The business had already been running for 2 years from market stalls and appointments in my dads spare bedroom, but the time came to take the leap….and I haven’t looked back since.
So spring in the millinery industry is looking very different this year….with the UK in lock down and events cancelled it is still unclear if we will see the social season at all…..more a case of social distancing season…
But we always work ahead of the season, so our Spring / Summer collection is already done and dusted and the Royal Ascot Style Guide is already published (featuring us for the second year in a row!) and we have delivered a collection exclusively for Fenwicks of Bond Street…….
The last week has been a whirlwind of emotions as we had to close the shop due the the government restrictions regarding the current Corona virus pandemic.
It is heartbreaking to close the doors, just a week before we hit our 10 year anniversary on the high street and as an event based seasonal business just as we would usually start to see the uplift to our peak season. With events now cancelled far into the summer, I fear it could take us a long time for the business to recover from this, it may mean big changes. But for now all we can do is do out bit and stay home to prevent the spread as much as we can.
Happy New Year!
We cant wait to see what 2020 has in store for us;
Not only is it a brand new decade, but unbelievably April 2020 will mark our 10 year anniversary as a permanent
resident of Farnham’s high street!
To celebrate we have a slight change to our early bird offer this year!
And keep your eyes peeled for more 10th anniversary celebrations throughout the year!
Whilst looking through files on an old laptop recently, I came across, my Critical Study essay that I wrote as part of my HNC in Millinery at Kensington and Chelsea college. Dated as being written January 2006! The content of this essay still fascinates me and so I thought I would share it with the world!
N.B. I have not edited the content of this essay at all since it was written, so some elements or views may have changed over time. Also remember that it was written by an 19 year old me!Continue reading “The Fall of the Hat, and the Significance of Hat’s in Today’s Culture”
