Dressing for Winter Weddings with Designer Caroline Charles

We always love exploring brands that compliment our own, Caroline Charles is a brand we have been aware of for a long time, seeing many of our clients coming into store looking for our millinery to match their Caroline Charles outfits.

We have always been struck by the quality of their clothing, the beautiful cuts of the fabrics and the heritage feel of the brand, striking a balance between classic styles with contemporary twists and fun pops of colour.

We decided to get in touch with Caroline Charles to find out more about the brand and also their top tips for dressing for winter weddings, and mother of the bride! And whilst we were at it we have paired some of their outfits with our hats for a little more inspiration

Here’s what Caroline Charles had to say:

Tell us about the Caroline Charles brand, how did it start, what are your inspirations and how did it become the business it is today?

Caroline founded the business in 1963. As a creative British Designer she was part of the explosion of interest by the Americans of ‘Swinging London’.

The Brand grew with outlets in New York, Hong Kong, Dubai, and expanded into a Home and bed Linen collection in the 80’s.

Caroline was awarded an OBE for services to the British fashion industry during the company’s 40th year in business.

Having dressed clients as diverse as Mick Jagger, to Diana, Princess of Wales, Caroline’s style and focus on beautifully crafted clothes remains the same.

Finding Luxurious fabric, unusual trims, often inspired by antique textiles, the collections reflect the Season and are a rewarding part of the Designer role.

What Advice would you give to women looking for their mother of the Bride outfit and how do you know when you’ve found the right outfit?

Searching for an outfit for a special occasion takes patience and an open mind. Always try on a variety of styles to find the best silhouette for your body shape.

Knowing the colour scheme of the occasion saves a lot of time when considering an outfit and communication with the rest of the party, to avoid outfit clashes!

Consider the photography for the occasion and presentation of the main guests, how colours and prints balance overall.

Winter weddings offer the opportunity to layer an outfit depending on the venue. Faux fur makes a glamorous statement when there is no matching coat.

When a client has found the right outfit they exude confidence in their body language and obviously smile!

When a client comes into one of the stores they will be made to feel at ease and have professional advice to help them choose the best outfit.

What other services do you offer and where can we find you?

An additional service can be provided if they need a tailor to make any alterations.

Caroline Charles has the flag ship store in Beauchamp Place and other stores in Tunbridge Wells, Cheltenham, Exeter and Wilmslow.
